7 September 2026 - The Wheelchair Basketball World Championships 2026 is about to start!

Between 9 and 19 September, Canada’s capital will host the year’s most anticipated event in wheelchair basketball – the Ottawa 2026 IWBF World Championships.

Organised by the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF), in partnership with Wheelchair Basketball Canada, the competition will take place at two important venues in Ottawa: The Arena at TD Place and Carleton University.

The competition brings together 336 athletes representing 28 national teams—15 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams—from around the world. Unfortunately, it was recently announced that the Iranian men's team will not travel to Canada due to visa issues. The teams secured their places on wheelchair basketball’s biggest stage through lengthy continental campaigns and repechage tournaments, which determined the final four qualifiers for each tournament.

The Australian women's team has been drawn into Pool A and will play its matches against Great Britain, Brazil, China, Spain, and host Canada. Their first match will be on Wednesday 9 September at 09.45 Eastern Standard Time Zone, which will be Friday 10 September 02.45 Melbourne time.  

The Australian men’s team is into pool B together with Great Britain, Turkey and Argentina. Their first match will be Thursday 10 September 12.15 EST (Friday 11 September 05.15 Melbourne time).

All games will be live-streamed via @wheelchairbasketballcanada and @IWBF YouTube channels.
