The Para Rowing World Championship 2026 will start on Monday 24 August in The Netherlands-Amsterdam. In combination with Olympic and Paralympic programs, the rowers will compete across a standardized 2,000-meter distance.



The Para Rowing World Championships will have 5 events, divided into specific functional classifications.


  • PR 1 women’s single sculls

  • PR 1 men’s singles sculls

  • PR 2 Mix double sculls

  • PR 3 Mix double sculls

  • PR 3 Coxed four


Australian rowers will take place in 3 out of 5 competitions.


In PR 1 men’s singles sculls Erik Horrie will participate, coached by Chris Holliday. In PR 3 Mix Double sculls, Sam Stunell from Adelaide is sharing the boat with Ella Marschall from Tasmania and their coach is Christina MacLaren. In PR 3 Coxed four Hannah Cowap (NSW), Toby Goffsassen(QLD), Cormac Hayes (ACT), Susannah Lutze(VIC) and Wallis Russel (QLD) are taking place in the boat. Their coaches are Caroline Pijpers and James Loveday.


Nikki Ayers and Jed Altschwager, who were winning a gold medal at the Paralympic games in Paris 2024 in the PR 3 Mix double sculls, are not active in Amsterdam.

More about the classifications in Para Rowing


PR1: For athletes with minimal or no trunk function who use their arms and shoulders; they compete on a fixed seat in single sculls with strapping for stability.

PR2: For athletes with functional use of the trunk and arms but limited leg mobility; they use fixed seats and compete in designated mixed double sculls.

PR3 (including legacy LW/Legs-Trunk-Arms profiles): For athletes with functional use of legs, trunk, and arms—or eligible visual/physical impairments—who can use a sliding seat.
