22 July 2026 - The Qualification Process for the PS 2028 Started in 2026!

In 2026, world championship tournaments are on the schedule for many Paralympic sports. The world championships for several parasports are the first chance to qualify directly for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
In June, the WC Goalball 2026 took place in Hangzhou, China. 16 women's and 16 men's teams competed for the title, which was won by China in the men's competition by defeating Germany 7-1 in the final. China also became world champion goalball in the women's competition by defeating Israel 12-4. Also in June, the Para Archery World Championships were held in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic.
The Sitting Volleyball World Championships took place in Hangzhou, again, from 10-17 July 2026 featuring 16 men's and 16 women's sitting volleyball teams. Since 1990, the men's sitting volleyball final has consistently been won by either Bosnia Herzegovina or Iran. As expected, the 2026 men's final was played between Iran and Bosnia, and Iran managed to win this final. In the women's sitting volleyball tournament, the United States won the world title for the first time in history.

Several parasport World Championship tournaments are on the schedule for the coming months. In August 2026, the Wheelchair Rugby World Championship (San Paulo, Brazil), Para Rowing World Championship (Amsterdam, Netherlands), and WC Canoe (Poznan, Poland) will take place, and in September 2026, the WC Cycling Road (Huntsville, Alabama, USA), Para Shooting (Changwon, South Korea), WC Wheelchair Basketball (Ottawa, Canada), WC Para Judo (Tbilisi, Georgia), and the WC Para Triathlon (Pontevedra, Spain) will kick off. The final months of 2026 will see the WC Cycling Track (Apeldoorn, Netherlands), WC Table Tennis (Pattaya, Thailand), Para Taekwondo (Muju, South Korea), and WC Powerlifting (Manama, Bahrain) take place.
