6 August 2026 - International Wheelchair Rugby Tournament is Coming to Australia!

The Rugby League World Cup is coming to Australia in October and November 2026. In total 10x men’s teams, 10x women’s teams and 8x wheelchair teams will participate. Australia is not the only host for this tournament, because matches will also be played in New Zealand (Christchurch) and Papua New Gunea (Port Moresby).

All the Wheelchair Rugby matches will take place in Wollongong-New South Wales. In the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong there is place for 6.000 spectators and over 8 days 20 matches will be played. 

The teams which will participate in the Wheelchair Rugby tournament include host Australia, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, New Zealand, USA, and France. At the last Paralympic Games in Paris 2024, the team of USA was playing the final and lost against Japan, while Australia won the Bronze medal by beating Great Britain.

In the team of Great Britain were players who are now playing for Wales, England or Scotland in this World Cup tournament. France became fifth at the Paralympic Games 2024, so strong teams are coming to Wollongong in 2 months. 

In Pool A England, Ireland, Wales and USA are playing their matches against each other while in Pool B Australia, France, Scotland and New Zealand are doing that. 

The wheelchair tournament competition starts at Friday 30 October 2026 and the final matches will take place on Friday 13 November 2026. 

Australia will play their first match on Saturday 31 October at 5.30 PM against New Zealand and their second match on 3 November 1.30 PM against Scotland. The last pool match will be played on 6 November against France. This match will start at 7.30 PM.
