24 September 2026 - World Championship Para triathlon 2026 in Spain

There are several ways to measure greatness, but the simplest metric is usually the safest. When it comes to triathlon, gold medals are the currency in which we primarily deal and at this week’s World Para Championships one athlete is chasing the victory that would lift him to unprecedented heights in the sport.

The 2026 Triathlon World Championship Final is taking place in Pontevedra, Spain. This week-long triathlon event kicked off on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, with the Parade of Nations and the opening ceremony, and culminates on Sunday, September 27, with the crowning of the elite world champions. Pontevedra shares a special bond with the sport of triathlon.

The Australian Para team consists of five women (Anu Francis-SA, Lauren Parker-NSW, Caroline Baird-QLD, Maggie Sandles-VIC, Grace Brimelow-QLD) and six men (David Bryant-WA, Sam Harding-ACT, Thomas Goodman-QLD, Matthew Engesser-NSW, Jack Howel-VIC, Jeremy Peacock-VIC). In total, three guides from Australia are also participating: Lauren Sprague (partnered with Maggie Sandles), Sophie Walker (partnered with Caroline Baird), and Aaron Royle (partnered with Sam Harding).

On Friday 25 September at 10.00 local time (18.00 Melbourne time) the Para Triathlon will start. On Sunday 27 September at 09.00 local time (17.00 Melbourne time) The Para triathlon mixed relay will start.
